Colostrum, expressed  by hand during pregnancy, helps to stabilize blood sugar levels from babies of diabetic mothers after birth and prevent hypoglycemia. Babies with cleft lip and/or palate, a cardiac complication or Down syndrome also benefit from antenatal expressed colostrum.
